MUSIC REVIEWS SOFIA LAITI OR THE MOST UNUSUAL AND INTELLIGENT CABARET SINGER IN THE BUSINESS. There are three thousands ways to review a musical piece and three thousands and one to critique a singer. Each review is different, because critics themselves are different, even different from the very fabric that constitutes their persona. And thus, the avalanche of reviews embraces and amalgams part or parts of the personality of the artist, subject of the review. In other others, do not ALWAYS believe the critics. This would not happen upon reviewing Sofia Laiti's CD "You Don't Know Me" . For, I listened to her songs, as if I were the only person in the audience looking at, listening at Sofia Laiti, and trying to grab in my palm, the shadows and lights, this most unusual singer paints in her voice. Lights, because Laiti's voice is happy. It does not sink your soul in a melancholic mood. Even thought, cabaret implores such distress and morose imagery. Shadows, because Laiti's voice is the truthful echo of the Cabaret Noire, the human drama, the aura of Mata Hari-esc and the remembrance of the early intellectuo-sensual cafe cabaret of Montmartre. Critics have tendency to use cliché words, such as " silky voice", "crystal clear voice", "perfect pitch", "sultry voice", "husky voice", "perfect phrasing". SOFIA LAITI IS CABARET ITSELF! YES SIR! SHE IS A WORLD CLASS SINGER Thus, they become banal and boring. And consequently, the artist's very inner world, soul and transparent unity with her or his world fade away. Especially, when you come across a "Laiti Voice". This woman can sing! This woman can tell you the whole damned story of your life in two lines. For, her voice is abundant with feelings, intelligence, sweet-bitter affection, drama, le risqué , a sinfully beautiful cadence and forbidden nostalgia. We go to cabaret, to fantasize, to forget our world or to invent a new one. We go to cabaret, to have fun, to have a drink, to look at women, to mingle with men, to dance with strangers, to meet somebody, to tell stories, to enjoy our lies or pour a few drops of adventure in our drink, etc...Also, we go to cabaret, to sense and to reoccupy a part of our existence, as if this part is an abandoned apartment in a mysterious and cold alley in Chicago, on Rue Le Pic, or lost between Broadway and the screams of a train....If the cabaret artist succeeds to evoke and create in us those memories, feelings and escapades, then the artist has managed to project on stage the meaningful part of our lives. For, Cabaret is life itself.

SOFA LAITI: CLASS AND STYLE! But to do that, the cabaret artist has to be powerful and sweet, convincing and rebellious, trustworthy but fatal, mature and nonchalant, realistic but unconventional, captivating but blaze, sensually appealing but arrogantly distant with charm and mysteries...Now, you blend all these attributes, qualities and adjectives, and you get a great Cabaret Chanteuse. Well?! Sofia Laiti is this kind of cabaret Chanteuse. In Laiti's voice, you sense, you feel, you smell the sensual fragrance of a femme fatale. In Laiti's voice, you discover how enchanting and alarming is to look -straight in the eyes- at a woman who is physically captivating, emotionally threatening to our health and intelligently motivating. Laidi's voice gives you this sensation: Sensuality, intelligence, comfort, motivation... TWO THUMBS UP FOR " YOU DON'T KNOW ME". Critics who reviewed her recent CD "You Don't Me" called her a jazz singer, and referred to her as a singer who is "taking jazz into a new direction." Others wrote " Ms. Laiti has a romantic, sensual voice, with softness of real jazz sound..." Fine! This is very true but, not true enough! For they have missed the "class", the "elegance", the "melodrama", the "intelligence", the " intellectual eroticism", the "aroma of a femme fatale", the "aura of La Dame Tragique", and the "roaring finesse " in the voice of Sofia Laiti. "You Don't Know Me" has 12 songs; a bouquet of standards and well-known or well-liked hits such as "Besame Mucho", "La Vie En Rose", "If You Go Away" (Originally -Ne Me Quittes Pas- by Jacques Brel) and "The Way We Were". The only problem I have with this CD is this: Why Ms . Laiti did not record her own songs? Why not REAL...ORIGINAL...NEW MATERIAL? Why to sing others' songs? I do not want to hear her answer. For, I know already what she is going to say. And this frightens and chagrins me! With such an unusual one million per cent "woman-warm-captivating-sensual-intellectual-challenging-motivating-nostalgic-Cabaret Noire voice" Sofia Laiti could and would do better singing her own songs. Maybe one day! A L'Aube Du Grand Jour! Two thumbs up! Ms. Laiti new CD "You Don't Me" is superb. Almost perfect. A vocal and musical treasure. She was lucky, she got the best musicians in the business to accompany her. Great virtuosi, like Larry Ham on the piano, the fabulous and incomparable Houston Person on saxophone, Leon Lee Dorsy on the bass and Vince Ector on the drums.- By Maximillien de Lafayette

STARS AND
CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR. FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED AND
LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES. By
Maximillien de Lafayette.
THEY ARE FAMOUS, BUT, THEY ARE NOT BETTER THAN YOU!
There are 4 kinds of
stars-entertainers in the world: 1-The talented; 2-The talented and the lucky;
3- The lucky; 4- The lucky and the boring. All, except the "unlucky" make
money. Big time money. Millions and millions. Sometimes, the most boring ones
are the luckiest and among the wealthiest. And this tragic reality has nothing
to do with talent or lack of it. Many extremely talented artists will never
see their names in light. They don't lack creativity or talent. They lack
luck, a good agent, an effective publicist, a shrewd manager, good contacts,
business and promotion strategy, and above all, they desperately need an
"OPPORTUNITY", or a break...
All time femme fatales and divas of the film noire. The femme fatale, is an irresistible dramatic and dangerously attractive woman. She is "la Femme" who directs men toward the abyss of danger. Ironically, the literature of the sacred and the damned does not include hommes fatales. Even, Charles Boyer, Jean Gabin and Tyron Power do not fit the description of a fatal persona. La femme fatale dates back to classic myth and ancient folklore. Astarte (Ashtaroot in Aramaic and Phoenician) was one. Circe, is another half woman half divine femme fatale who turned Odysseus' men into swine in Book X of The Odyssey and the Sirens, whose beauty and alluring song attracted his sailors and high seas adventurers...Read full article and see photos
